The game of Cricket is introduced into Bulgaria in the early 20th Century by English Diplomats and was played in the American college in the centre of Southwest Bulgaria – Blagoevgrad .
The new history of Bulgarian cricket began in 2002 with the official foundation of the Bulgarian Cricket Federation with the efforts of a few enthusiastic sportsmen ,captivated by the game. At the same meeting members appointed prof. Nikolay Kolev as a President of the federation. The Bulgarian Ministry of Sport recognized BCF as one of its “new” sports and with the aim of developing the game throughout the country a development program ,which puts youth developments as its main priority, were formed.
In June 2008 on its meeting ,ICC granted Bulgaria with Affiliate status and new doors opened for the development of cricket in the country.
Based at Bulgaria’s National Sports Agency in the capital city of Sofia, the BCF has ten member clubs with juniors ,seniors and universities male and female teams ,which compete in an annual league and other national and regional tournaments.
In 2009 BCF has started a project for construction of a National Cricket Base located in the National Sports Academy, Sofia, which will be completed and official opened in September 2012 with hosting of the European T/20 Cricket Tournament.

In 2010 started a new program for sports development in the Higher Schools in Bulgaria.Were formed eight universities teams, which competed in the 1th Universities Cricket Championship.
In the beginning of 2012 BCF in common with Bulgarian Ministry of Physical Education and Sports started a new program for disability cricket .The program include cricket teaching to children with special needs all over the country.
The Bulgarian National cricket team played its first international game in 2004 when it beat the Serbian team of “Tsurvena Zvezda” and participated in the same year in the European Representatives Championship held in Slovenia.
In 2007 and 2008 ,Bulgarian teams competed in a friendly tournament against New Victoria Cricket Club for the New Victoria CC Challenge Cup donated by Rewardaward.
In 2009,the national team participated in the ICC European Championship-Division 5 in Greece, where it finished in fourth place.
In 2011 ,the team participated successfully in ICC European Championship Division 3 in Slovenia and in European Twenty 20 Tournament in Budapest with final position of second place.
